PIAS Consultation

Plymouth Information Advice and Support for SEND service (PIAS) provides impartial information advice and support to children, young people with SEND and their families.

The Local Authority held a consultation process with regards to making changes to PIAS and how the service operates (restructure).

Plymouth City Council held 4 meetings to share these plans and gave the opportunity to ask questions and share views (consultation).

Summary of the proposals:

  • The PIAS casework team will reduce in size from current 6.18 full-time equivalent to 3 full-time equivalents.
  • There will be changes to the service operating hours.
  • Youth Ascends will move to a different team within the Local Authority.
  • Parenting Programmes and parenting workshops will no longer be offered by PIAS.
  • A new tutor role will be created within the adult education provider On Course South West.

The closing date to ask questions and share your views was Monday 3 February 2025 at 10am.

PIAS Consultation Outcome

We would like to thank parents, carers, practitioners and external stakeholders for their engagement and feedback received during the Plymouth Information Advice and Support for SEND (PIAS) consultation process. We are grateful for your attendance at the meetings, and we truly appreciate the advice and feedback you have provided. The consultation meetings were well attended, and we have had a significant amount of information and feedback to review.

Please be assured that all feedback has been treated seriously, and has been considered when determining the outcome of the consultation. In addition to the feedback, we also received an alternative restructure proposal from the PIAS team, which we also considered.
