Commitments from the SEND Improvement Board

Our commitment to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families

  1. Put you at the heart of everything we do.
  2. Help you much earlier.
  3. Work together to help you stay in school.
  4. Work together to support you when you are waiting for the care you need.
  5. Ensure you get the additional specialist help and support when you need to live away from Plymouth.
  6. Ensure you consistently get the right help at the right time.
  7. Reduce the long waiting times for the care that you need.
  8. Make sure everyone working with you have the right training and development.
  9. Ensure the right services and support is in place for the future.

… delivering earlier support for those on specific pathways for help i.e. Speech and Language, Neurodiversity, Community Paediatrics & Mental Health Services.

… asking you to help us design and deliver a learning, development and training programme.

… asking all services in the city to sign a charter committing them to delivering the training, making it mandatory for all the people who work with you to have the right training to meet your needs.

… making sure every classroom is a place where every child belongs and can learn with the right support.

… making sure there will be enough special school places.
